The Kuwaiti security forces have arrested a Kuwaiti woman for allegedly carrying out espionage missions for the Iraqi secret services, the London-based As Sharq al Awsat reported Monday. The unidentified woman, 30, was detained after returning to Kuwait via Jordan following a trip to Iraq, according to the newspaper, which cited Kuwaiti officials.
Under questioning, the woman claimed she had visited Iraq to receive condolences for the death of her Iraqi-born mother. She is the first woman arrested by the Kuwaitis for spying for Iraq since Iraqi forces were expelled from the oil-rich emirate at the end of the Gulf War.
Following the conflict, a number of Iraqis have been detained, tried and convicted of spying against Kuwait or planning terrorist actions in the country. (Albawaba.com)
