Rapper Sean ‘Puffy’ Combs settled a lawsuit this week in federal court over hit song I’ll Be Missing You

Brought by music publisher Albert E. Brumley & Sons, the lawsuit stemmed from Puffy using part of the gospel song I’ll Fly Away for his 1997 tribute to slain rapper The Notorious B.I.G

According to the suit, I'll Be Missing You, uses eight words from Brumley's 1929 hymn. The song also featured 112 and Faith Evans and was penned by rapper Sauce Money.

It also sampled Sting’s Every Breath You Take. I'll Be Missing You sold over 11 million copies and, based on the basic rate for music publishing royalties, the publishers would have got more than $800,000 from sales alone.

The terms of the settlement, however, were not disclosed – WENN.
