ALBAWABA - The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council in Iran, Ali Larijani, has issued a warning about what he called a conspiracy including the remains of the Jeffrey Epstein network that aims to stage a significant strike and place the blame on Iran.

According to sources, those connected to the surviving components of Epstein's network would try to stage an event akin to the September 11 attacks in order to accuse Tehran of complicity, according to a post made by Larijani on X on Sunday.

Iran, according to Larijani, "fundamentally rejects terrorism and such operations, stressing that the Islamic Republic does not seek conflict with the American people."

Additionally, he said that Iran is acting in the area in what he called "legitimate self-defense" in reaction to strikes by Israel and the United States.

The allusion to the September 11, 2001 attacks refers to the coordinated hijacking of four commercial aircraft by terrorists, two of which hit the Pentagon in Washington and the World Trade Center in New York. The assaults, which claimed about 3,000 lives, are still regarded as one of the biggest acts of terrorism in contemporary history.

Larijani's comments also made reference to American businessman Jeffrey Epstein, who was charged with operating a global network of teenage girls involved in sex trafficking and keeping ties to well-known social and political elites. While awaiting trial, Epstein passed away in a New York jail in 2019.

The remarks coincide with rising tensions in the area as a result of Israeli and American strikes on Iran, which Tehran claims killed hundreds of people, including important security and political personnel.

In response, Iran has escalated the confrontation by attacking Israel with missiles and drones and focusing on what it claims are American interests in the area.
