Protests over social media ban turn deadly in Nepal, 16 killed

ALBAWABA - People in Nepal protested against the social media ban, and they clashed with the police, leading to the death of at least 16 people.

According to AFP, the Nepal police used tear gas and water cannon to disperse the protesters in Kathmandu who gathered to call on the government to lift the ban on social media.

Nepal's government blocked on Friday 26 unregistered platforms, including Facebook, YouTube and X (formerly Twitter), triggering public anger.

Earlier, Shekhar Khanal, spokesman for the Kathmandu valley police, said: "Until now, 10 protesters have died and 87 are injured."
