Iran's special religious court has banned the reformist weekly magazine Khalij-e-Fars (Persian Gulf), published in the southern city of Boushehr, the reformist daily Afta-e-Yazd reported Thursday.
The newspaper said the magazine's management was informed of the decision not by the court itself, but by the ministry of culture and Islamic guidance.
The move, on Wednesday, was taken because the magazine had "disturbed public opinion" and "spread lies," the newspaper reported.
Since April, more than 20 publications supportive of reformist Iranian President Mohammed Khatami have been shut down by the country's judicial authorities, in which conservatives predominate - TEHRAN (AFP)
