Physicians say Sharon may yet regain consciousness

Israeli physicians on Monday announced that despite the extensive comatose state in which Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has been in since early January, Sharon may yet regain consciousness.

Professor Shlomo Mor Yosef, director of Hadassah University Hospital where Sharon is being treated, stated that the possibility still remains that the Sharon will awaken, according to Ynet.

“It is not beyond all chances,” Mor Yosef told reporters on Monday at Tel Aviv University.

However, MorYosef cautioned that though Sharon may awaken, his physical and mental facilities may have been affected by his current state.

“We have consulted with Israeli and foreign experts in the field, and no one said that there is no chance he’ll revive. The condition he’ll be in if he wakes up remains an open question,” he added.

Sharon, who suffered a massive stroke on January 4, has not regained consciousness since entering a medically induced coma to undergo heart surgery.

The Israeli prime minister was set to participate in Israel's upcoming parliamentary elections on March 28 as head of the new Kadima party which he formed after leaving Likud, which currently heads Israel's government.
