A member of the Palestinian Legislative Council said he expected further deterioration in the boiling situation in the Palestinian territories after bloody clashes erupted four days ago.

“What is going on in the Palestinian territories is a real war, where the Israelis have used Haun artillery, rockets and deployed tanks,’ said Hatem Abdul Qader, Jerusalem deputy at the Palestinian legislature.

Abdul Qader confirmed in a telephone interview with Albawaba.com that there has been exchange of fire between the Israeli forces and the Palestinian police. He expected further escalation.

“The Israelis asked for a ceasefire, but we set as a condition their withdrawal from the Aqsa Mosque precinct, and a guarantee of safety of our citizens,” he added.

The deputy said that the PNA is conducting contacts with the Arab and Islamic states, and is mobilizing the international public opinion against Israel.

The death toll of the confrontations up to 8 p.m. Sunday was 34 in addition to more than 800 people hurt.
