In a meeting held on June 23 by the regional Association of Kairoun for the elimination of illiteracy, the association's general coordinator, Salem Mekki, emphasized the importance of the program to fight illiteracy. He also disclosed that during the last five years, the program contributed to the elimination of illiteracy of 250,000 adults.
Mekki also explained that several steps were taken to decrease illiteracy rates such as the establishment of a pilot center for teaching adults in Sidi Fouhaichi. <i>La Presse</i> reports that the association also formed a new department, which will develop new strategies for the elimination of illiteracy in the area.
