Egyptian director Ahmad Al Nhas has started shooting his latest TV series, Salma Ya Salama (name of a song by Dalida), which takes on the issues of corruption and addiction in the new and old generations of Egypt’s youth.
According to ‘Al Ittihad’ newspaper, the series was written by Mohammad Al Ghubdi, and stars Hala Sudqi, Samiha Ayoub, Ahmad Khalil, Sahar Rami and many more.
The story depicts the relationship between the different social classes within the middle class and this class’s view on the upper class.
Hala Sudqi plays the role of Salama, the woman who is the vessel for the middle class’s aspirations.
Salams insists on keeping true to the social traditions of her class. However, she comes across some disappointments.
Meanwhile, actor Ahmad Khalil plays the role of a coffee shop owner and a drug dealer, who plays around with the principles of the middle class, looking to make fast money.
Samiha Ayoub explained her own role saying that she “personifies the mother of a middle class family; who is determined to raise her children in the way she was raised. However, she finds herself head to head with innovative ideas of new traditions, which find their way into her house.”
Ayoub explained that the mother then “slowly comes to love these new western traditions, especially the principles for raising children” – Albawaba.com.
