ALBAWABA- US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to a ceasefire based on President Biden's proposal.
Blinken emphasized the urgency of finalizing a ceasefire to both protect Israeli interests and alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
He stated that a permanent ceasefire is crucial for the release of hostages and will involve detailed work over the coming days to clarify its implementation.
Blinken also revealed plans to travel to Egypt and Qatar to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim to further the ceasefire discussions.
Despite positive reports from the Israeli Prime Minister's office regarding the three-hour meeting with Blinken, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has urged the US to apply political pressure on Hamas to accept the deal, paralleling Israel’s military pressure.
On the ground, Israeli airstrikes have resulted in the deaths of 34 Palestinians, including women and infants, across various areas of Gaza since morning.
Critics argue that the US's role in negotiating the ceasefire reflects ongoing support for Israeli actions, exposing perceived double standards in US foreign policy.
