ALBAWABA- The Palestinian Authority announced on Sunday that it is making international preparations for President Mahmoud Abbas and members of the Palestinian leadership to visit the Gaza Strip. The visit comes in response to the ongoing Israeli military aggression, which has afflicted Gaza for over ten months.
This visit is intended to demonstrate solidarity with the people of Gaza and to reaffirm the "Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) mandate and responsibility," while also striving to "restore national unity," according to the Palestinian news agency "WAFA."
The Palestinian Authority is coordinating with international entities, including the United Nations, the permanent members of the UN Security Council, Arab and Islamic countries, the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the European and African Unions.
These efforts aim to secure broad support and participation in this significant visit, with Israel being notified of the plans as well.
Last Thursday, President Abbas, addressing the Turkish parliament, announced his intention to travel to Gaza with "all members of the Palestinian leadership" and urged world leaders and the UN Secretary-General to join him in visiting Gaza.
Abbas's announcement followed meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, focusing on efforts to halt the ongoing conflict and to work toward lasting peace in the region.
The visit takes place against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Middle East. The region remains on edge following the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and senior Hezbollah figure Fouad Shukr in Beirut, which has fueled fears of further conflict.
According to Erdoğan’s office, the discussions between the two leaders centered on "the massacres committed by Israel in the Palestinian territories" and the steps necessary to achieve "a lasting ceasefire and peace."
