Singapore is getting set to kick-off its 43rd National Day on August 9th with a series of exuberant festivities that will unite Singaporeans all over the world with the ‘Spirit of Singapore’.
The Singapore Spirit has stitched Singapore’s harmonious social fabric and aided Singapore’s journey towards building a better Home for All and a Global City of Possibilities.
The annual National Day parade held at the Floating Barrage at Singapore’s Marina Bay will wow audiences with an elaborate entertainment showcase that brings together each of Singapore’s diverse communities.
Planned and executed meticulously, the theme of this year’s National Day Parade is ‘S’. Not only does it stand for Singapore, this year’s parade aims to take parade-goers on a journey through four common themes which define the nation: Search, Sense, Spirit and Shine.
The Singapore Fireworks Celebrations 2008 will return as a major part of the National Day Celebrations. Staged at the Marina Waterfront Viewing Gallery on Aug 22-23, two international, award-winning teams from Europe and Asia will be invited to showcase their cultures through dazzling displays of fireworks accompanied by music.
With thriving political and trade links between the two nations, the UAE is now home to over 1,000 Singaporeans. National Day will be celebrated in the UAE with celebratory dinners in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Mr. Low Pit Chen, Charge d'Affaires of the Singapore Embassy in Abu Dhabi, said: “The number of Singaporeans in Abu Dhabi has doubled in one year alone. This is a reflection of the excellent opportunities available in Abu Dhabi for Singaporean individuals and companies, made possible by the continued development and progress in the emirate and the UAE under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.”
“The estimated 800 Singaporeans residing in Dubai are engaged across various economic sectors, including consulting, manufacturing, logistics and the hospitality industry. This reflects the growing opportunities that Singaporeans who venture out can find in this part of the world,” said Mr. Dileep Nair, Singapore’s Consul-General in Dubai.
“Under the visionary stewardship of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai has become the pre-eminent commercial centre in the Middle East, just as Singapore is in the Far East. There is tremendous scope now for cooperation and collaboration between our two hubs for mutual benefit,” added Mr. Nair.
