"Multilingualism, Cultural Identity and Education in Morocco" is the title of a new book by Moha Ennaji, a professor / researcher at the university Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah of Fez. The 256-page work is written in English. It has just been published by the Boston-based Kluwer-Springer. In general, this book discusses the effects of multilingualism on linguistic policy and language choosing, and on the attitudes of officials and the general population.
Le Matin reports that the book also focuses on the impacts of multilingualism on the Moroccan cultural identity and its education system, since the kingdom's independence. In this regard, Ennaji stresses the complexity of the linguistic and cultural situation in Morocco. Part of this complexity is related to Morocco's struggle between modernity and conservatism, which is reflected in the country's changing linguistic policies and attitudes, the author concluded.
