King Mohammad VI of Morocco sent a personal congratulatory and conciliatory message to Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, marking the Algerian independence holiday, November 1, according to local sources. He called for building a common future in order to ensure regional stability and said that Algeria and Morocco have much to offer each other.

Tensions have exacerbated over Rabat's refusal to accept what is known as the Baker plan to settle the issue of the West Sahara with a referendum on self-determination. The local Moroccan press has issued a swathe of attacks on subjects such as Algeria forgetting its principles. The Moroccan King is keen to be seen to be dampening tension between the two populations. (albawaba.com)
