Jordan's second mobile service provider launched Friday to "break down the barriers" to access to mobile phones and mobile phone services to (every person with a low price), Jordan Times reported Friday.
"People are not going to count minutes, but hours," Vincent Brunet, chief marketing officer at MobileCom, was quoted by the daily as saying, adding that "MobileCom is giving people time to talk, and your bill isn't going to be your enemy any more."
On September 10th, MobileCom signaled an end to the need for punitive deposits from people who wish to use GSM mobile telephones to call others within Jordan. MobileCom also announced its service and subscription packages, which are due to be introduced for the first time in Jordan on Friday.
MobileCom’s expects that its strategy of cost-effectiveness and simplicity of mobile services to make GSM mobiles accessible to all people in Jordan.
MobileCom’s has been fierce in its competition with FastLink, Jordan’s sole operator in the mobile phone market for five years.
Fast Link had enjoyed an exclusivity period from its launch in 1994 until October 1998, when new competition was to be introduced. Due to a continuing stream of legal impediments and the lack of clear regulatory direction, however, Fastlink managed to gain an extra two years of operation as a monopoly in Jordan's mobile market. The result has been a slow-growing market with a penetration rate far behind the rest of the region – (Several Sources)
