London Condemns Violence between Israel and the Palestinians

The British government expressed its sadness and concern Saturday over the fierce clashes around Jerusalem's al-Aqsa mosque that have left seven dead and over 200 injured. 

"We are deeply saddened and greatly concerned by the violence at Haram al-Sharif in Jerusalem which has led to deaths and many injured at such a holy site," said British junior foreign minister Peter Hain in a statement on Friday's clashes.  

"We are also gravely concerned over recent terrorist violence," he added. 

"We urgently call for immediate restraint by all and an end to provocation and confrontation. Violence of any form at this time can only undermine the prospects for successful peace negotiations," Hain's statement said – LONDON (AFP) 

 

 

The President of the Repubic of Turkey Ahmet Necdet Sezer, and Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit,also sent condolences to Yasser Arafat over the deaths that took place at Haram al-Shareef.
