Syria and Lebanon agreed on Wednesday to reevaluate agreements signed between them, discuss the situation of Syrian workers in Lebanon and investigate assaults on them as well as to explore the status of some missing Lebanese in cooperation with Syria, a joint statement issued Wednesday said.
At the end of talks held between Senior Syrian officials and Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati, a joint statement said the two sides agreed to review all accords signed in a way that ensures removing any unfairness over any party in case of its presence working with the principal of transparency in ties and achieving the joint interest of the two countries.
According to SANA, they stated that each side would have to prepare a paper of evaluation for all accords and all sectors to be discussed by a common committee for this purpose.
Syria and Lebanon also agreed to discuss what is said about the subject of Syrian and Lebanese employment in both countries and agreed the joint committee for labor affairs would accelerate its job in putting a mechanism to implement the labor accord signed between them.
"In this respect, the two sides agreed to make an invistigation into attacks on Syrian citizens in Lebanon. The Lebanese government has to follow up perpetrators at courts and find out about the possibility of compensating victims and over damages," the statement added.
Syria and Lebanon also decided to open a bureau at the Lebanese ministers council to receive complaints and deal with them in the appropriate way as to allow Syrian students studying at the Lebanese universities to continue their studies.
They underlined the need to carry on implementing all cultural, educational accords related to exchange students between the Syrian and Lebanese universities.
On the issue of some missing Lebanese, the two countries accepted that the Lebanese government would provide the Syrian government with data to be discussed by joint committee formulated by the two sides to be consulted from Syrian concerned sides.
The statement noted that during President Bashar al-Assad meeting with Premier Najib Mikati they underlined the importance of developing and deepening fraternal ties emerging from what the cooperation, coordination and fraternity accord has termed.
It added that when Prime Minister Mohamed Naji Ottri received Lebanese counterpart, talks dealt with what should be done to consolidate fraternal ties and the view point was that we agree on reactivating the process of implementing them as to serve the two sisterly countries joint interests.
