ALBAWABA - Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi reaffirmed his country’s unwavering stance against the relocation of Palestinians, responding indirectly to recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting that Jordan and Egypt should accept more residents from Gaza.

Speaking at a press conference alongside Sigrid Kaag, the UN Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Safadi stated, “Jordan’s priority is to help Palestinians remain on their land.” He reiterated that, “The solution to the Palestinian issue is a Palestinian solution. Jordan is for Jordanians, and Palestine is for Palestinians.”

Safadi emphasized that the two-state solution remains the only viable path to peace and expressed Jordan’s readiness to collaborate with the new U.S. administration and regional partners to advance peace efforts. He also highlighted the urgent need to stabilize the Gaza ceasefire, deliver uninterrupted humanitarian aid, and lay the groundwork for reconstruction.

Kaag underscored the importance of ensuring humanitarian assistance reaches Gaza civilians. She described the current situation as an opportunity to push for a two-state solution, reaffirming the United Nations' commitment to this approach.

President Trump recently suggested that Jordan should accept more Gaza residents, describing the territory as being in "a state of real chaos." He also proposed that Egypt take in individuals from Gaza, announcing plans to discuss the matter with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The remarks have sparked significant regional discussion, with Jordan maintaining its long-standing opposition to any measures that would undermine Palestinian rights to their homeland.
