ALBAWABA- Israel said Tuesday evening it intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Yemen after air raid sirens sounded across central and southern regions.
The Israeli army confirmed detecting the launch, while the Home Front Command reported sirens in multiple areas before the projectile was shot down, according to the Israeli Broadcasting Authority.
The attack came just hours after Israeli airstrikes on Doha targeted senior Hamas officials in a failed assassination attempt that killed relatives and aides of Khalil al-Hayya, a top political bureau member.
Although the Houthis have not officially claimed responsibility, the strike is widely seen as retaliation against Israel’s growing regional campaign, including its bombings in Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and now Qatar.
This week has marked an escalation of Houthi operations. On September 7, a drone evaded Israel’s multilayered defenses and hit Ramon International Airport near Eilat, injuring two people and halting flights briefly.
The Houthis, through spokesperson Yahya Saree, claimed responsibility, vowing to continue targeting Israeli airports and declaring them “unsafe.” Israel acknowledged intercepting three other drones from Yemen that day.
The Houthis frame their attacks as part of a wider solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, intensifying a dangerous regional spillover of the war.
Israel, for its part, has stepped up counterstrikes and bolstered air defenses, but the Yemeni front now underscores the widening arc of conflict stretching from Gaza to the Gulf.
