King Abdullah II of Jordan emphasized on Thursday that the two- state solution is the only solution that "we should seek." During a press conference held with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Thursday, the King stressed that the two- state solution is the solution that must be achieved through bilateral Palestinian- Israeli negotiations and agreements that are based on the Road Map.
'
'A negotiated agreement that leads to a viable and contiguous independent Palestinian state, on Palestinian territories will help establish a just, comprehensive Middle East peace that provides security and stability to every Arab and Israeli, man, women and child. It is a peace that people on both sides will defend and protect now and in the future'' the King added, according to Petra news agency.
King Abdullah also renewed Jordan's commitment to assisting the Palestinians and the Israeli to achieve the desired peace.
The Jordanian monarch said that he looks forward to a strong partnership for peace with Olmert and to more cooperation between the two countries. "We agreed to stay in close contact in the weeks ahead to help move the peace forward,'' the King noted.
King Abdullah said that Olmert had reiterated his commitment to the Road Map, and to reaching a peace agreement in the near future in partnership with the Palestinians. "I am pleased to learn that Olmert will be meeting soon with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas,'' the King pointed.
"We also shared our concern over the deteriorating economic and humanitarian situation in the Palestinian area, and we expressed Jordan's desire for all parties to work together to guarantee the resumption of assistance to the Palestinian people,'' the King noted.
