Jordan’s opposition parties, professional associations and key opposition figures called on the Jordanian government Sunday evening to recall its ambassador to Tel Aviv, expel Israel’s envoy to Amman and planned a rally on Monday in support of the “Palestinian people fighting a bloody battle” since Thursday.
“As we speak about the brutality of the Jews, it is worth mentioning that US interests in the region are at stake if it continues to apply its double-standard policies when dealing with Arab issues,” warned Bahjat Abu Gharbiyyeh, a leading opposition figure.
A higher coordination committee comprising members of the parties, associations and independent opposition figures met privately after a large rally held at the associations’ headquarters to discuss the crisis.
During the meeting, participants donated money to the Palestinians, and chanted slogans condemning the Israeli massacres and criticizing the United States’ Middle East policies.
The coordination committee decided the rally will set out from the professional associations’ building to the Hashemite Court, downtown Amman. The march is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. local time.
Further demands included the customary call for the abolishment of the Jordanian-Israeli peace treaty, signed in Wadi Araba in 1994, and a boycott of American and Israeli goods.
