The Israeli government denies legitimate businessmen from India entry visas to the country, despite its stated policy of encouraging and developing commercial ties with the second most populous country in the world, The Jerusalem Post reported Tuesday.
Twenty Indian businessmen seeking to attend the Plasto Ispack plastics and packaging exhibition being held this week in Tel Aviv were denied visas by the consular section of Israel's embassy in New Delhi, the Israeli paper said.
Amir Tamari, CEO of the Tel Aviv Trade Fairs and Convention Centers, told the daily he wrote a letter to Batya Karmon, head of the Interior Ministry's permits department, but received no reply.
"I regret the position taken by Ms. Karmon, who did not bother to give any reasons for the denial of the visas, either to the Indians or to myself.”
Harsh Vardhan Shringla, counselor for economic affairs at the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv, confirmed that Indian businessmen consistently face problems obtaining visas, the paper said - Albawaba.com
