ALBAWABA - Israeli forces left some positions in Quneitra, southern Syria, after weeks of being stationed in the area, Al-Jazeera reported Monday.

The news outlet noted that the forces withdrew from the governorate building and the court building in Al-Baath in Al-Quneitra Governorate. They further partially withdrew from the vicinity of Al-Mantara Dam and Al-Qahtaniyah in the Quneitra countryside.

When the Syrian opposition ousted President Bashar Assad on Dec. 8, the forces of the dissolved Syrian regime army left their positions in the south of the country even before the armed opposition factions arrived in Damascus leaving the border without any forces and pushing Israeli forces to take new positions inside Syria.

The Israeli army announced that its forces had advanced into the buffer zone in the Golan Heights, most of which it has occupied since 1967.

Syrian Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa had earlier condemned the Israeli incursion, stressing that the current situation in the country "does not allow for any new conflicts."
