For the first time, a wanted criminal stands to be extradited to Russia following a ruling handed down Thursady by Jerusalem District Court Judge Zvi Cohen, The Jerusalem Post reported Friday.
Cohen ruled that Genady Yagudaev should be returned to Russia to complete a 13-year sentence he began serving in October 1983 for two counts of armed robbery, and to stand trial on charges of conspiring to kidnap a man and hold him for ransom in November 1998, the Israeli paper said.
The extradition was made possible a few months ago after Russia joined the European Extradition Covenant, which Israel ratified in 1967. The covenant has been mutually binding on the two countries since March 9, 2000, the daily added – Albawaba.com
