The Israeli army has asked the public to help track down one or more rapists who have assaulted at least three women soldiers at the Tzrifin military base near Tel Aviv over the past year, The Jerusalem Post reported in its weekend issue.
Col. Mickey Barel, commander of the criminal investigation division of the Military Police, was quoted by the daily as saying that the military policemen have been dispatched around the area to protect women soldiers. Cameras have also been set up to monitor the base, one of the largest in the country, said the source.
At least three soldiers were reported as having been raped and one sexually assaulted in the Tzrifin area since May 1999, the paper said. A special Military Police detective unit is also investigating any possible link between the latest rapes and one in the area nine years ago, the newspaper said, adding that Barel did not rule out the possibility that all the attacks might have been carried out by the same individual. In addition, the Military Police think there may have been more attacks that have gone unreported, according to the daily - Albawaba.com
