ALBAWABA- Israeli forces launched a deadly airstrike on Palmyra, a historic city in central Syria, killing at least 36 people and injuring over 50 others.
The attack, carried out from the direction of the al-Tanf region, targeted residential buildings and an industrial area, according to a Syrian military source.
The strikes caused significant material damage, devastating multiple structures and impacting the surrounding area.
Syrian state media, citing military reports, stated that the aggression took place around 1:30 PM local time and originated near the Jordanian border.
Palmyra, a UNESCO World Heritage site famed for its ancient ruins, has frequently been the target of hostilities due to its strategic location.
This latest strike follows a deadly series of Israeli airstrikes on Syria late Saturday, with a similar attack on Damascus coinciding with the visit of Iran's Minister of Defense.
Syrian state media reported explosions in the western countryside of Damascus, marking yet another escalation in Israel’s ongoing air campaign.
The attack occurred while Iran’s defense chief was meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, reaffirming Tehran's commitment to supporting Syria and the broader "resistance front."
It also follows a deadly series of Israeli airstrikes last Thursday in Qudsaya and Mazzeh, near Damascus, which resulted in 15 deaths, including four children, and 16 injuries.
