ALBAWABA - In an unexpected move, Israel subtly acknowledged Sunday that it was responsible for the destruction of pager devices that were purportedly used by Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.
During a cabinet meeting, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu brought up the event and said that there were individuals in Israel's security establishment who were hesitant about the operation, suggesting that it originated in Israeli intelligence.
Twelve people were killed and hundreds were injured in the September assaults, which featured the coordinated explosion of pagers and wireless communication devices. The Israeli intelligence organization Mossad is accused of putting explosive explosives in hundreds of pagers, which were then sent to Hezbollah members in Lebanon, according to individuals who spoke to Sky News Arabia. But up until today, Israel has not formally acknowledged its role.
Netanyahu attacked several members of Israel's security and political elites at the conference for opposing a number of high-risk operations, including as proposals to assassinate Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and an invasion of Rafah in Gaza. According to Netanyahu, the United States' lack of support was one factor contributing to these complaints.
In addition, the prime minister responded to claims made by "internal and external sources" that were "spreading lies" about the current hostage-release talks in Gaza. He said that Hamas' position has only hardened after the terrorists killed six captives in a tunnel in Rafah in August.
