Iraqi products legally entered Lebanon on Thursday for the first time since 1990 in preparation for a Baghdad-sponsored trade fair in Beirut, the government said.
Thirty trucks, carrying mostly rice, dates, honey, molasses, wool, carpets and fertilizers, crossed the Syrian border at Masnaa, the official news service ANI said.
Iraq, which has been under a United Nations embargo since its 1990 invasion of Kuwait, plans an exhibition in Lebanon starting Saturday, to be inaugurated by Iraqi Trade Minister Nasser Saidi.
Lebanon broke off diplomatic relations with Iraq in 1994 after an opponent of Saddam Hussein's government was assassinated in Beirut. But relations have improved recently as Iraq mends ties with longtime rival Syria, the main powerbroker in Lebanon - BEIRUT (AFP)
