A top Iraqi government official said Monday several countries are pressuring Baghdad toward postponing the trial of Saddam Hussein.

Vice-President Adel Abdulmahdi, who was on a visit to the Shatrah city in the southern province of Nassriya, said that some countries, which he did not name, are pushing for a delay of the trial. Abdulmahdi told tribal leaders and city notables that the Iraqi people should be united on a speedy trial of the former Iraqi president and his cronies.

Last week, an Iraqi minister said the US is working to delay Saddam trial.
