Iraq's Foreign Minister Mohammed Said al-Sahhaf has held talks in New York with his Iranian counterpart Kamal Kharazi on bilateral relations, the official INA news agency reported Thursday.
The two ministers, who met Wednesday on the sidelines of a United Nations General Assembly meeting, looked at ways of "renewing contacts between their countries to conclude unsolved issues and advance the process of normalization," INA said.
The meeting took place just four days after Iraq implicated Iran in a rocket attack in Baghdad, which left one wounded. Tehran denied any involvement.
The two countries re-established diplomatic relations at the level of charge d'affaires in 1990, nearly two years after the end of the brutal 1980-88 war between them that left almost one million dead.
But the process of normalization has since run aground on the issue of prisoners of war and armed opposition groups sheltered by both regimes - TEHRAN (AFP)
