Iran’s Interior Ministry on Monday told all citizens not to abuse its name to make money in business deals, saying violators would be dealt with severely.

Ministry officials called on the public to denounce any suspected cases of misuse of the government body's name, reported the official Iranian news agency, IRNA.

Earlier in July, a reliable source told IRNA that a former MP and several intelligence ministry officials were arrested and kept in solitary cell for involvement in "economic corruption."

"An MP from (northwestern) Orumiyeh in the fifth Parliament, several officials of the interior ministry and some other unknown businessmen were arrested one-and-a-half months ago," the source said on condition of anonymity.

"It was rumored that they were accused of drug-trafficking, but now it has been revealed that they have been involved in major economic corruption," he said.

"Keeping them in solitary confinement is indicative of the serious accusations," he added – Albawaba.com
