ALBAWABA - The UN Acting Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Joyce Msuya accused Israel on Wednesday of obstructing the delivery of desperately needed supplies to Gaza.
The US ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, called on Israel's government to intensify efforts to address the "intolerable and catastrophic humanitarian crisis" in the devastated Palestinian enclave.
Algeria, the council's Arab representative, convened the meeting in response to a US ultimatum to Israel to significantly increase humanitarian efforts or face losing money for weaponry from its key source.
The Biden administration granted Israel 30 days to execute a variety of duties, including delivering 350 trucks of food and other relief into Gaza every day.
According to Msuya, in Gaza, fewer than one-third of the 286 humanitarian excursions arranged with Israeli authorities in the first two weeks of October "were facilitated without major incidents or delays".
The amount of suffering in Gaza rises by the day, she added, as Israeli bombs continue to fall, fierce fighting continues, and "supplies essential for people's survival and humanitarian assistance are blocked at every turn".
Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian UN envoy, accused Israel of besieging, bombing, and starving 400,000 Palestinians in northern Gaza as part its brutal aggression against the Palestinians.
Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel
Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.
Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip and captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.
In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
The latest statistics by the Ministry of Health in Gaza revealed that the death toll from Israeli brutal pounding on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has soared to 42,409+ people, with more than 99,153+ injuries.
Since then, approximately 85% of Gazans have been displaced, all of whom are suffering from severe food insecurity, and the healthcare system has collapsed. Hundreds of thousands of people lack shelter, and aid trucks are entering the area at a lower rate than before the conflict began.
