Indonesian police have arrested two more suspects in last year’s Bali bombing, in which nearly 200 people, mostly foreigners were killed when two bombs ripped through a popular nightclub district in Kuta last October.
The younger brother of key suspect Amrozi, who was arrested last November, was among those held, police said.
Their arrests bring the number of people detained in connection with the attack to seventeen. Amrozi is accused of purchasing materials to make bombs and of buying the minivan used in one of the attacks. Another of his brothers who has been arrested, Ali Gufron, also known as Mukhlas, allegedly assisted in planning the attacks and is also suspected of belonging to the Jemaah Islamiah group.
Police said they arrested the two men, identified as Ali Imron and Mubarak on Monday as they attempted to escape the country. Imron and Mubarak were stopped on the island of Berukang, off Samarinda in East Kalimantan province, said a police spokesman.
Lieutenant General Erwin Mapaseng said Imron was the "field coordinator" in the bombings, while Mubarak is believed to have helped finance the attacks. Eleven men apprehended alongside the two suspects are being questioned, AP quoted Mapaseng as saying. Police officials are searching for nine more men they have named as suspects in connection with the attacks. (Albawaba.com)
