ALBAWABA- Troops from Pakistan and India exchanged fire along the disputed Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir for the third consecutive night, officials confirmed Sunday, deepening tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors to their lowest point in years.

According to Pakistani security sources, Indian forces initiated "unprovoked" firing late Saturday night targeting the Malta Post in the Leepa Sector of Pakistan-administered Jhelum Valley District.

Pakistani troops responded with small arms fire, and the situation reportedly stabilized by early morning. No casualties or material damages were reported from either side.

The flare-up comes just days after India accused Pakistan of backing "cross-border terrorism" following the deadliest civilian attack in Kashmir in 25 years.

On April 22, gunmen killed 26 people at a tourist hotspot in Pahalgam, prompting a massive manhunt by Indian security forces. Islamabad has strongly denied any involvement, calling India's allegations "frivolous" and warning of a firm response to any hostile actions.

The renewed violence underscores the rising volatility in Kashmir, already exacerbated by diplomatic breakdowns and the suspension of key treaties, as both nations harden their positions in the wake of the Pahalgam tragedy.
