The images of two Americans purportedly killed by Iraqi resistance fighters were aired by the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera TV channel on Sunday. Al-Jazeera said it received a videotape that showed the bodies of two foreigners lying on a roadside in Fallujah.
"The audio recording accompanying the footage said the two men were (US) intelligence officers working in Iraq," it said. However, it is not clear when and where the videotape was shot.
Meanwhile, a third round of negotiations aimed at ending the fighting in Fallujah is to be held Sunday, a U.S. commander said. Arab TV stations reported that Iraqi fighters have agreed to a U.S. offer of a truce.
There were few sounds of clashes in the city Sunday and a Marine commander said the Iraqis had not attacked them for several hours.
Mahmoud Othman, a member of Iraq's Governing Council, said the fighters have agreed in principle to a truce starting Sunday, but the deal depends on the prospect of American forces withdrawing from the city.
The resistance fighters made the offer via mediators in negotiations between council members and city representatives in Fallujah, he told The Associated Press. (Albawaba.com)
