ALBAWABA- Yemen’s Houthi movement announced on Wednesday that its missile forces carried out a “qualitative military operation” targeting Lod Airport in the occupied Jaffa region with a hypersonic ballistic missile.
Houthi military spokesperson General Yahya Saree declared that Yemen will continue its support for Gaza “whatever the challenges and repercussions”, vowing to fight until the siege is lifted and Israeli attacks are halted. He described the operation as part of Yemen’s “honorable duty toward the oppressed in Palestine.”
The strike marks the first Houthi retaliation following Israel’s massive air raids on Sana’a last Sunday, August 24, which hit civilian infrastructure including power plants and oil storage facilities. According to Houthi officials, those attacks left six people dead and 86 wounded.
Israel confirmed it had conducted strikes on multiple targets in Sana’a, including a military complex near the presidential palace, a fuel depot, and power stations.
The operation followed a Houthi missile strike on Friday, which Israel said involved cluster munitions, the first such use by the Houthi group since the conflict began.
The Israeli military has launched an internal probe into why its air defense systems failed to intercept the Houthi missile, which carried internationally banned munitions under treaties signed by more than 100 countries.
