Hizbullah gunmen opened fire on Israeli soldiers patrolling the border on Tuesday, saying the gunfire was in retaliation for an attack on one of its own border positions.
Israeli military sources reported flurries of gunfire from Lebanon on army positions near the Sassa kibbutz in northern Israel, causing no casualties but inflicting damage to several vehicles.
Hizbullah first said it had no knowledge of such an incident but later claimed the attack, saying in a statement it was in retaliation "for gunfire from an Israeli vehicle on one of its observation posts."
Lebanese security sources confirmed the Israeli army opened "sporadic" fire on the area, adding it had asked the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), stationed on the Israeli-Lebanese border, to launch an investigation. (Albawaba.com)
