Senior Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip, Sheikh Ismail Haniyah, released a statement late Thursday night saying that any attack against al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem would bring an end to the calm between Hamas and Israel, and would eradicate any understandings reached at the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit between the PA and the Israeli government.
Haniyah addressed a Hamas gathering in Gaza on Thursday night, calling for demonstrations following Friday afternoon prayer services to protest plans by radical Jews to visit and pray on the Temple Mount on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Arab League has issued a warning regarding the possibility of a “terrorist attack on the al-Aqsa mosque,” ahead of Friday prayers. The League also called on the international community to intervene and assume responsibility for safeguarding Muslim worshippers and holy sites.
