ALBAWABA - The Houthi movement in Yemen said on Sunday night that, in retaliation for the continuing Israeli military actions in Gaza, it plans to launch further missile attacks against Israel, aiming at Tel Aviv and Ben Gurion International Airport.
The organization warned in a short statement that Ben Gurion Airport (also called Lod Airport) and other locations will be hit and that military operations would start "within hours." The Houthis said that they would not be held accountable for any damage or fatalities if businesses or persons remained in the region, and they advised all residents, particularly foreigners, to leave the area right now.
Israel Intercepted an Earlier Attack
Shortly after the organization claimed credit for firing two ballistic missiles toward Israel the day before, they issued this warning. The Israeli military reported that it used its air defense systems to intercept one missile launched from Yemen early on Sunday morning.
Panic and Injuries in Central Israel
One person was hurt trying to get to a shelter in Bat Yam, which is just south of Tel Aviv, according to Israeli emergency services. According to Israeli media, there were several loud explosions reported in the country's central regions.
Residents were forced to take cover after the launch as air raid sirens were triggered across a large area, including Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and portions of the central and western West Bank.
Airport Closed Due to Dangers
Authorities momentarily blocked all aircraft arrivals and departures from Ben Gurion International Airport in reaction to the missile threat. The blockade also emphasizes the Houthis' long-range capabilities and the war in Gaza's expanding regional scope.
Security forces are still on high alert as tensions in the area continue to build, and the Israeli government has not yet released an official statement addressing the most recent threat.
