Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh announced on Tuesday that his movement would propose a coalition government with the rival Fatah party.
Haniyeh, who met with Egyptian security chief Omar Suleiman in Cairo on Monday, told reporters on Tuesday, “We will sit with them officially propose they join the government,” according to the AFP.
Following Hamas' landslide victory in Palestinian elections in January, the movement is faced with forming a new Palestinian government, which Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah party currently heads.
Meanwhile, Hamas leader Mahmoud Al Zahar stressed that "The world shouldn’t fear Hamas." Al Zahar also added that the European Union would renew contacts with Hamas in six months.
