ALBAWABA - In a recent written statement, Hamas declared its commitment to abide by the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) ceasefire resolution against Israel, contingent upon Israel's compliance.
The announcement comes in anticipation of the ICJ's verdict on the genocide case brought forth by the South African Republic, accusing Israel of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas expressed close scrutiny of the ongoing case, asserting their intention to adhere to the ICJ's decision based on the principles of reciprocity and international law. The statement outlined that in the event of the ICJ implementing a ceasefire decision, Hamas would reciprocate as long as Israel complies.
Furthermore, Hamas emphasized a potential reciprocal gesture, stating that if Israel releases Palestinian prisoners in Gaza, Hamas would reciprocate by releasing Israeli captives in the region. The statement also urged Israel to put an end to the 18-year-long blockade on Gaza and allow unrestricted entry of aid and reconstruction materials into the region.
