ALBAWABA - In its latest editorial, the newspaper said, "Observing the disturbing scenes of violent and aggressive protesters during the Flag March in Jerusalem's streets demands a recollection of Professor Yehoshua Leibowitz's cautionary words."

Haaretz reported that Leibowitz warned that "the temporary surge of national pride following the Six-Day War will lead Israel from a rising wave of nationalism to extreme nationalism, culminating in a phase of brutality, ultimately leading to the demise of Zionism." The text praised the philosopher's insight.

Haaretz said the marchers carried Kahanist emblems and sang angry chants, including demands for Arab deaths and village destruction.

In a "chilling" climate, Haaretz noted the popularity of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and the physical attacks on its reporter, Nir Hasson, and other journalists by groups.

The article said that Palestinians and anybody seen as a journalist were also attacked, highlighting a troubling pattern of hostility and intolerance.

Haaretz blamed the absence of Palestinians in Jerusalem on self-preservation and warned that failing to curb extremists and solve structural faults in Israeli society might expedite the nation's disintegration.

Haaretz concluded that "Israel risks an impending catastrophe without bold measures to marginalize radicals and address the core causes of conflict. The countdown to collapse has started "urging immediate action to prevent further decline.
