ALBAWABA - Two Syrian security personnel were killed by gunmen at a checkpoint in the northwestern city of Tartous.
Syrian state media SANA quoted a security source as saying that a car was suspected by the country's Internal Security patrol, and it was parked on the side of the road. When the patrol approached to inspect it, one of the individuals inside the vehicle opened fire directly at the security personnel, killing two security forces.
The source explained that the gunmen in the car fled, stressing that the relevant authorities are working to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
Since the overthrow of Bashar Assad's regime, the new Syrian administration has been making intensive efforts to maintain security in the country, including pursuing remnants of the ousted regime who are attempting to foment chaos.
