Israeli forces shot dead a 24-year-old Palestinian overnight in the Gaza Strip near the border, medics and the Israeli army said on Thursday. Mohammed Abu Shaar died near the Kissufim border crossing, they said, according to AFP. He was unarmed.
An Israeli army spokeswoman said troops opened fire after seeing a man crawling near the border fence. On Wednesday, Israeli troops shot dead three Hamas members near the territory's border fence with Israel.
Meanwhile, dozens of staff members at Gaza’s main hospital staged a new rally on Thursday after Hamas security forces detained a senior doctor who is considerd a Fatah supporter. According to AFP, the health workers gathered in the car park at Shifa Hospital in Gaza City following the overnight arrest of Jumaa Al Saqqa, the facility’s public relations director who had been fired from his post by Hamas.
Hamas’ Executive Force detained Saqqa along with his son, his family members told AFP. Earlier, Saqqa said he was evicted from his office by Hamas security forces on Wednesday and handed a letter of dismissal from Hamas’ health minister, Bassem Naim.
A Hamas official said the doctor was fired because he refused to cooperate with the movement.
