The first Boeing 777-200LR Worldliner, the longest range commercial airplane in the world, landed in Abu Dhabi International Airport on Wednesday as part of the 'Going Distance' world tour that will see it covering 20 cities in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Australia and North America through August.
The Worldliner will make stops in Muscat and Doha, according to WAM.
The plane was received at the airport by Khalid Al Mehairbi, Deputy CEO, Etihad Airways and a number of the Airport's senior officials.
Later this year, the Worldliner will attempt to set a new world record for distance traveled nonstop by a commercial airplane. The current record -- 10,823 nautical miles (20,044 kilometers) -- was set in 1997 by the 777-200ER.
The 777-200LR is the only plane that can literally link any two cities non-stop on the map.
Etihad Airways, the UAE national carrier, has made orders to purchase five 777/200 LR from Boeing, the delivery of which will start next October.
