ALBAWABA - Local officials and the mayor of the city said that this morning near a Jewish temple in La Grande-Motte, southern France, two automobiles, one of which had a gas cylinder, were set on fire. The explosion that followed wounded a police officer.

At least two automobiles were purposefully set on fire, and the mayor of La Grande-Motte, Stephan Rossignol, acknowledged to "Agence France-Presse" that a municipal police officer was hurt there. Gérald Darmanin, the interior minister of France, denounced the event on the social networking site "X," calling it a "criminal act."

"I want to express my solidarity with our Jewish fellow citizens and all others," wrote the minister, "and I want to assure you that, as directed by President Emmanuel Macron, we will deploy all available resources to apprehend the perpetrator." Additionally, he said that there will be more protection surrounding Jewish houses of worship.

Darmanin is scheduled to go to La Grande-Motte, a well-known beach resort in southern France, later today. La Grande-Motte is close to Montpellier.

Mayor Rossignol further mentioned that security film showed someone setting fire to the cars outside the Beth Yaakov (House of Jacob) synagogue, which was damaged by the explosion in two of its doors.
