ALBAWABA- Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, made an unannounced working visit to Ankara on Tuesday evening, where he met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
According to the Qatari Amiri Diwan, the leaders discussed “the strategic relations between their two brotherly nations and explored ways to further strengthen cooperation across various sectors.”
The discussions also covered “key regional and international developments,” with a particular focus on the escalating situation in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as the evolving situation in Syria.
Turkish media described the meeting as critical, emphasizing Erdoğan's call for international collaboration on Syria’s reconstruction. “The global community must come together to rebuild Syria,” Erdoğan was quoted as saying during the talks.
The Emir’s unexpected visit comes amid significant developments in Syria following the reported collapse of the Assad regime on December 8.
Turkey recently announced the reopening of its embassy in Damascus after a high-profile visit by Turkish intelligence chief İbrahim Kalın, who met with Ahmed Al-Sharaa, head of Syria’s political and military administration.
Meanwhile, a Qatari technical team arrived in Damascus on Monday to inspect the Qatari embassy, signaling preparations for its reopening.
