Egyptian Ambassador Assem Ibrahim arrived in Tel Aviv on Thursday morning more than four years after Cairo recalled its most senior representative in Israel as the Palestinian uprising started.

"I am very proud that the president, Hosni Mubarak, granted me the responsibility for representing Egypt in Israel," Ibrahim said upon his arrival at Ben-Gurion International Airport, according to Haaretz. "Like every ambassador in every country I aspire to develop the relations between our two nations," he added.

Assem was Egypt's former envoy to Sudan.
