An Egyptian daily on Saturday branded the United States as the "Great Satan" because of its plans to wage war against Baghdad.
Egypt’s state-owned Akhbar el-Yom daily also expressed regrets for the fall of the Soviet Union, eleven years ago, and paid strong tribute to France for opposing a US-led war on Iraq if not sanctioned by the UN, calling on the UK to do the same.
"We hope that Britain would regain consciousness in the future and play the same role as France, so that Europe would be able to play once again the role of moral maestro in international" politics, the paper said. (Albawaba.com)
