ALBAWABA - Egypt has officially joined South Africa's ICJ case against Israel, a big development. The case accusing Israel of Genocide Convention violations has garnered international attention.

Egypt expressed significant concerns about Israel's abuse of Palestinian civilians in Gaza on its Ministry of Foreign Affairs Facebook page, announcing its intervention.

Egypt urged Israel to uphold its occupying force obligations, implement the International Court of Justice's interim measures, and stop abusing Palestinians. The statement also asked international parties and the UN Security Council to accelerate Gaza ceasefire efforts and protect Palestinians.

Egypt joined the lawsuit after Libya, Nicaragua, and Colombia declared their intent to participate under ICJ rules. Israel and South Africa have previously been requested by the ICJ to write on Colombia's role.

South Africa sued Israel on December 29, 2023, alleging violations of the 1948 UN Genocide Convention. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel to take preventive and humanitarian measures during interim measures procedures in January 2024 due to urgency.

On March 28, 2024, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel to send humanitarian supplies to Gaza and safeguard Palestinian rights after South Africa's further interim measures. The ICJ ordered Israel to produce a detailed report on next measures within a month.
